STUBBS CREEK RESTORATION PROJECT LAUNCHED IN AKWA IBOM STATE, DESJI in attendance

The Women in Nature Conservation Organization (WINCO) has partnered with the Akwa Ibom state government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP) to launch the Participatory Restoration and Management of Stubbs Creek Forest Reserve project.

The event, attended by representatives of Defender of the Environment and Social Justice (DESJI), featured a range of programs including workshops, training, and empowerment sessions on livelihood activities, specifically focusing on jackfruit value chain development, stakeholders’ engagement, and conservation education.

Keynote speaker, Dr. Ibrahim Goni, Conservator General of the National Park Service, described the ceremony as historic, highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts in environmental conservation.

The event culminated in a tree planting ceremony, flagged off by Dr. Goni, symbolizing the commencement of the restoration project.

The project aims to promote sustainable management of the Stubbs Creek Forest Reserve, enhance biodiversity conservation, and support local communit through livelihood empowerment initiatives.
