The Defender of Environment and Social Justice Initiative (DESJI) conducted a visit to Midim community in Essien Udim Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom state, Nigeria, to assess the impact of road construction on the community.
The visit aimed to seek justice for non-compensated and defrauded victims of destroyed houses, crops, and economic trees

- Delayed payment of compensation: The construction company, has failed to pay compensation to affected community members.
- Homelessness: Many community members have been left homeless due to the destruction of their houses.
- Hunger and starvation: The lack of compensation has led to hunger and starvation among community members.
Community Concerns
Community members expressed their concerns and frustrations, including:
- Lack of support from construction company: The company has allegedly connived with the Community Liaison Officer (CLO) to defraud victims.
- Need for government intervention: Community members are calling on the government to intervene and provide support.
DESJI’s Response
DESJI has assured the affected victims that they will provide necessary intervention and support to ensure that their rights are protected and compensation is received.
The team leader, Mr. John Nwanosike, promised to work tirelessly with relevant authorities and stakeholders to address the injustices faced by the victims.
